Free Trade Agreeement - Joint Collaboration and partnership

Gammasonics Institute for Medical Research Pty Ltd & Landauer, Inc. - Australia/USA

A joint collaboration and partnership between Landauer and Gammasonics was signed on the 10th November of 2005, in the presence of NSW Members of Parliament, senior personnel from the department of state development, and other at NSW Parliament House.

We understand this is the first of such bilateral agreements signed since the Free Trade Agreement by the Australian and USA governments.
The joint venture is significant, not only to Gammasonics, but also for the Australian biotechnology industry. This is the first time that an Australian organisation has been recognized in such a sensitive area of medical and scientific radiation, and to work closely with one of the high profile corporations from the United States, as Landauer is.

Landauer is listed on the New York Stock Exchange, and is a world leader in personal radiation dosimetry, with a current database of more than 45 million readings per year. This makes them by far the largest in the world. By comparison, our largest local service provider of older technology, provide approximately 150,000 readings a year.
Landauer holds the world patent for OSL (Optically Stimulated Luminescence) technology. This knowledge has been shared with Gammasonics Institute for Medical research for the developing application of new technology and equipment that has not been explored until now.

The agreement includes; Establishment of private dosimetry systems across Asia and the Middle East, Australia to provide teaching facilities for the new technology, Landauer to be the distributor of the technology in the northern Hemisphere. The new technology to target environmental, medical and diagnostic applications along with military and national anti-terrorism security applications.

Gammasonics is already well know in every corner of the world by the success of the Gamma probe which we launched in the mid 1990’s, helping more than 100,000 patients undergo a less radical cancer treatment, with a proven success rate of 98%. At the same time, Gammasonics’ current technology, produced in Australia, will be distributed by Landauer throughout the United States, Japan, China and Europe.

In view of this, the group is currently training multilingual personnel with technical and commercial skills, with one moto, “we speak your language”.
